A letter to the anonymous Australian Tax payer.....

To whom it may concern,

I just wanted to say THANK YOU!

This is where some of your money went...........

It went to a little boy who was never meant to walk. It went to an "aid's and equipment funding package" that assists families like ours with the ongoing care and needs of a disabled child. It went to a orthotics specialist that used his tool's and skill to mold these AFO (Ankle-Foot Orthosis) into the best possible fit, so a little boy would no longer be in pain and be given every opportunity to walk.

We have needed the Taxpayer for a while, thousands of dollars are required to care and provide speciality treatment and equipment for Finn. Just to give you an idea....each pair is around $1000, Finn has had 4 pairs. This is only one specialist, we have had up to 26 specialists at any one time.

The thing is.......we no longer need these supports, we now only require inner soles at 1/10th of the price. I am sorry but your investment.......now out grown, is going in the bin. It's a good day for us, one we have been waiting, wondering if it would ever come.

So let it be said, with tears in my eyes, THANK YOU.......You may never understand the full extent of love and gratitude I will always carry for you. Leonie Guld xxoooo

What a heartening post and a great perspective-giver for when we feel grumpy about taxation! Hurrah for Finn and for such a loving and persistent family.

If people around the world could be assured that all their tax went to causes just as inspiring, no-one would mind paying them!

Here's to never giving up x

That is the best letter Leonie. What a fabulously clever and resilient little man and a fabulous Mama you are. This indeed is what I am happy in the extreme to pay taxes for. xo

Now that's money well spent!!!
(I especially love the rocket ship design).
While I'm pleased he had them when he needed them, I'm so thrilled he doesn't need them any more.
Great news.

This is exactly where taxes SHOULD be going, there is a lot of stuff that I complain about my taxes being spent on, this is NOT one of them.

Congrats to Finn, nothing better than seeing your kids reach their full potential.

This humble taxpayer thinks that it was money well spent, and we look forward to Finn casting aside other investments we have made as he no longer needs them!

What an amazing post Leonie - a different story and one for another time but we found the year we had our biggest tax year was the year when more tax money than we could ever imagine was spent on Archie - and it was utterly worth while. It so so amazing to see your kids trash the predictions made for them. XXXXXXXXX

I am so thrilled for you all- esp Finn- what a battle- what an achievement!!
I wish more of my money went on this stuff rather than funding government advertsing and those stupid pamphlets they send out!

hi lovely,
tried to post a comment yesterday when I read this but blogger was NOT nice.
soo very happy for you all that this long awaited day has finally come.
yay for Finn being strong & for you as a family being strong and supportive together.
i got goosebumps reading it & looked around at the toys, the books & mess the kids make and I realised that it didn't matter and it made me happy that they are happy, healthy and loved.
just like your kids are.
hugs to you beautiful strong lady, hugs to you! ♥

What an inspiration your little boy is and your family's dedication to proving the world wrong is nothing short of wonderful. I am not surprised with a mama like you he is finished with those supports. I've been having a crappy morning this morning. All the little things have been getting to me but reading this post sure put things into perspective soon. Thanks Leonie and hooray for Finn. XX

When I worked as a rehabilitation physician, nothing gave me greater pleasure and satisfaction than when a patient was able to stop using an orthosis. So I know something of how you must be feeling, Leonie.
As for the taxpayer angle, so much money is wasted by the governments whom we trust to spend it wisely and effectively, that it's wonderful to learn of public money that's well spent. Indeed, very well spent.

Oh Leonie, there are tears in my eyes. How absolutely wonderful. So glad to know that such good things can come of tax. What a miracle. The photos say it all. :)

Oh now I have tears in my eyes. We are always complaining about the amount of tax we pay. Every time the pay slip comes in. This post has changed the way I will look at our payslip. From now, I will think of your little man walking and will be warmed that our tax is going to families that need it and not those who don't.
Thank you. And congratulations to you all!!
