Fear you say...FEAR...well if its fear thats the problem........lets nail this little bugger together!!! Anyone else have a fear of cables....go and get a cuppa, have a little sit and I will try my best to keep this as simple as possible.
First up...You need the needle. We have 2 on the market and if you are learning don't even bother with the straight number. Its a total waste of time, your stitches will slip of the little sucker and it will make the job of learning this new art a NIGHTMARE. Get the one with the wavy bit in the middle...PERFECT! Tania you should be receiving yours soon..he he...I still have your address!!!
Work out a pattern, this is mine.....
Cast on 32 Stitches
Row 1 *Knit 2, Purl 4* Repeat sequence until last 2 stitches Knit 2
Row 2 *Purl 2, Knit 4* Repeat sequence until last 2 stitches Purl 2
Repeat this for as many rows as you like...Its up to you (just keep count!!)...OK lets nail this little slippery sucker!!!
Purl 2, Pick up the cable needle and slip on the next 2 stitches
Allow the needle to rest at the front of your work...It can rest at the back also, either way just remember which way you would like it to sit, it has to be the same every time for the pattern to flow.
The cable needle will just hang there nicely...take your time...it will feel a little odd to have it just hanging there.

Then pick up the cable needle and knit it back onto the needle. The stitches came on at one end and they need to come off at the other. Do not twist your work!! It may feel a little tight..thats normal.

Just keep the pattern going until the end and Purl the last 2 stitches.

I was totally afraid of cables for a really long time. Then I bit the bullet sat down and taught myself, easy peasy. I even taught other, but be careful its addictive.
Good Tut.... I don't find cables scary - I find knitting scary! I knit slower than snails run! I wonder if you can crochet cables????
what..?!!
WOW! That doesn't look too hard. Thanks Leonie!
That looks so inspiring Leonie - just love the photos :) K
I think I'll just leave it to the experts. If I want knitting I'll just have to draw some. ; )
I am with Cathie. I am fearful of knitting but am happy with my very basic crochet however I LOVE looking at your knitting and everyone elses.
I am still a little frightened but when it is time for me I will come back because it is so beautifully explained. Thank you XXOOXXOOXX.
A lovely 'how to' but I think I will stick to my crochet hook!! I am just way to slow with the needles x
This is a sensational tutorial Leonie!!! I love cables and your explanation is so simple yet so perfect.......... I will definitely be referring fellow knitters with a fear of cables to this tutorial...

A friend's mum left one of those little knitting doozies at my house once. I have still got it and I might return it now because Lord knows I am not going to use it!!! Its great you are sharing your talents though.
Oh bloody hell Leonie... that looks more like brain surgery than knitting!
oh, yes! this is so awesome, step by step and photos included!!! thank you! This is exactly what I needed, a little 'take it from the very beginning' lesson on cables! Will be practicing soon!
