Mine does too. It was the Diggers seeds, I think. My usual basil didn't seed very well and this year's crop was small and late and the Diggers seeds were it. But, yes, aniseed. Doesn't make for a very nice pesto. Bit icky.

it's crossed with Thai Basil?
Exactly what Kylie said...it may be crossed with Thai Basil. Which as itself, in Thai cooking, is quite tasty. Rather shocking, though, if you're expecting a more Italian pesto type sensation.
